Happy Birthday Daddy

Penny would like to wish her daddy a Happy Birthday. She gave him an early gift of being all cuddly with him last night when he got home from work.

Cousin Ryne

So Penny has spent a lot of time with her cousin Ryne (born last May) this week and it has been so cute. When Ryne comes in the room and sees Penny he gets SO excited. We even gave him the opportunity to hold Penny on Tuesday (I don't think she thought it was as fun as he did)

Mommy & Daddy

As Josh said in the last post mommy and daddy are adjusting to life with Penny. We finally got some decent pictures with Penny, I especially like the lady bug outfit from "Aunt" Carole.

Adjusting

Penny is two weeks old today and it's been two weeks of adjusting for everybody. I think I'm getting used to sleeping in two to three hour increments but it's not something I would recommend to others. Emily and I are still in the process of deciphering which screams mean what, but for the most part Penny only gets upset for specific reasons (usually hunger). We're also adjusting to the fact that every trip out of the house is an ordeal involving car seats, diaper bags and an increased hatred of all bad drivers.

I think Penny is also starting to adjust to us and life in general. She seems to understand that diaper changes are part of the everyday routine and doesn't get as upset each time. She's also started to understand that she can make noises other than crying. Her newest pastime is to - for lack of a better word - squawk. This morning she laid in her bassinett and serenaded us.

Fatty

Our sweet "little" baby girl had her two week check up today. Last Friday she was doing good at 6 lbs. 12 oz. which was exactly where she needed to be. Today, exactly a week later she is 7 lbs 11 oz!!! The doctor laughed when he saw that. She needs to gain about an ounce a day, but a pound in a week is a bit extreme. I guess Josh and I are doing our job. I'll take a fatty because it means she is healthy and that is all we care about.

Visitors

Penny has had lots of visitors recently, and she seems to love the attention. We had cousin Ryne and Aunt Krista yesterday. Ryne seems very interested in Penny but does not know what to do with her. She is sleeping pretty good at night, averaging 3 to 4 hours so mommy can't complain.
